MADYMO & PreScan used by TNO to design enhanced protection of vulnerable road users

Product News

In 2009, TNO started with the development of a windshield airbag for the protection of all vulnerable road users - pedestrians and cyclists - during an impact with a passenger vehicle. The first phase of the project, commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Transport and carried out in close cooperation with Autoliv Sweden (airbag manufacturer), the Dutch Cyclists' Union and Centraal Beheer Achmea (insurance company), will be completed in June 2010. Project deliverables include airbag and sensor specifications based on road accident investigations, computer simulations and accident reconstruction tests. The effectiveness of the windshield airbag has been compared with a "pedestrian only" airbag and automatic braking systems.
